So day 4 we spent in Suva checking out what my mom and dad have REALLY been up to on their mission. This picture of me and Heidi is taken from the back porch of my parents apartment. How's this for a view to wake up to every day... just have a tropical rain forest out your window. Tough duty!
This is my parent's little office at the Fiji Mission service center. My dad s over the finance/audit department and my mom has taken over organizion of membership records. Mostly they are there not so much to do the work themselves, but to teach the local members how to manage their financial and membership records themselves. So here they are working side-by-side just as they've done for years and years at Kasteler & Assoc.... now it's just like K&A, Fiji branch. It was cute, my mom had all her Christmas card photos hanging up by her desk from everyone who sent them one this past Christmas. This photo is of mom showing me her little desk calendar and how much she loves flipping the pages every day.
After attending the Monday morning devotional at the service center and meeting all my parent's friends at their office, it was off to Downtown Suva for a serious shopping experience.
Our first stop was the local Handicraft center.... you know the kind of place where they sell the same stuff at all of the hundreds of booths, we each came away with one sort of treasure or another.
Just being in downtown Suva was quite the experience, what a busy city! There was a cruise ship in port this day... so all the locals were really playing it up to get people to come into their shops... like the guy below.
p.s. the weapons we're holding are like ancient (well not so ancient) warrior weapons used for killing and eating people... what a heritage Fiji has!
