Winter Quarters Temple

Last weekend we went with our ward on a temple trip. Having lived in SLC my entire life, I've never been more than about a 15 minute drive from at least 5 temples. So this was my first experience packing up for the day and going for a drive to the temple. They have broken ground on a temple here in KC, but I don't think it's expected to be completed until 2012, but the members here are very excited! Normally, they go to the St. Louis temple, but for some reason they decided this time to go to the Winter Quarters Temple in Omaha, Nebraska. My first time in Nebraska as well... and we had to drive through Iowa to get there. I covered 2 new states in one day! It was such a neat experience. A bunch of people from the ward went to a morning session and then stayed out of the temple with all the primary kids while the rest of the adults attended an afternoon session. They had 54 primary kids waiting outside the temple. I guess they took them on a tour around the temple grounds and visitors center, played games, and watched a movie. It was so nice.

This is a picture of Aspen's new friend, David. Turns out they've decided they're going to marry each other. Every time we get together the two of them are always together. Apparently, all the ward now knows about their engagement since while they were on a tour around the temple and they were talking about how you get married in the temple, David announced that he was going to marry Aspen. I guess if they can hold out until they really can get married in the temple it's ok by me! When Aspen asked me if she could marry David, I said she had to ask his mom first. She said as long as she kept on making good choices... and wrote him on his mission. LOL. kids are funny.

We have been very warmly welcomed into the ward here, and we couldn't be happier! Already so many great friends. What's that song from Annie?... " I think I'm going to like it here!"

It is always really a great experience to visit a new Temple. They are all so unique but with the same special spiritual insides. Glad you had a great outing. I can't believe that Aspen cutie pie!!! Tell her she needs to wait until GrandmaFiji can be there too!

You are having lots of new experiences. You must feel your personal growth in many dimensions. I fondly remember the short stop we made there on our way to Nauvoo in 05. I loved the monuments and the visitor center. I love attending sessions at Temples that I've never been in before.
