Having lived in SL my entire life, I realize now how completely I have taken for granted having a temple close by... and not just one temple close by, more like 1/2 dozen temple close by. I haven't even been in all the temples in SL. What I realize now is that it's one of those things you don't appreciate until you don't have it anymore. Our closest temple is in Omaha, Nebraska but our actual temple district is in St. Louis, MO. Before we lived here we really only had to give it a day or two thought in advance if we wanted to attend the temple, and that was just to line up a babysitter and make sure we didn't have anything else going on. Now for us to make a trip to the temple we have to plan weeks in advance to make sure we can plan a whole day trip or even and overnight stay at the hotel. So by planning in advance, we've put dates down on the calendar and have had to make more effort and commitment to make it to the temple. Needless to say, I am THRILLED that the Kansas City temple is so close to completion. I think it's supposed to be finished in about a year. I'm looking forward to again being so close to a temple. However, I realize I'm even more excited for the members of the Church who are from here who have ALWAYS had to make the sacrifice of time and travel to attend the temple. I will have only had to make the effort for a little over a year by the time the temple is complete... but the members here have never known what it's like to be so close. In a way going to the temple now means more to me because we have to make a greater effort to make it happen, so I feel also like I appreciate it more than I have before. I hope we will continue to make it a priority and continue planning weeks in advance to visit the temple even when it's only a 30 minute drive rather than a 3 hour drive. I love driving along the freeway and seeing this magnificent building topped with the Angel Moroni alongside the road. It's so comforting and makes me feel so at home.

Thanks for sharing. I just finally got my recommend renewed today...and looking forward to going. I haven't been to the Daybreak Temple yet and I could probably walk to it....no excuse!
that is great news! i love that picture!
we've lived away from utah for a LONG time now, but have luckily never been more than 1 1/2 hours away from a temple. it's still a bigger commitment than most places in utah, but at least we never had to spend the night. i am so excited for you that it will be so close!
It looks beautiful. I am happy for you and all of the saints that will serve in it.
So So So excited for you! Living away has helped me appreciate the temple oh so much too. Minneapolis was a two hour drive. Now I can be there in 15 minutes and I LOVE it. Actually headed to my Thursday session tomorrow! I love being able to go more frequently and with less planning : D
Thanks for the reminder of how blessed we are to live so close to our Temples. I actually lived closer to a Temple in Fiji than I do here in SLC but not matter what we all still have to make the effort and take the time to attend whether near or far away. I'm excited to see your Temple up close and personally next week! xoxoxoxo
