Fall Break St. George trip

Aspen's first off-track of the school year came at just the right time for us to take a little fall break getaway.  Clark has been putting in some long hours at work lately, so we were all ready for a little relief from the daily grind.  We headed to St. George from Mon-Sun and we packed our week FULL!

Monday we got into town about 8:30 pm, nevermind we left at 3... that drive just always takes longer than planned!   Tues and Wed were perfect beautiful days, about 80 degrees!  The kids were happy playing at the pool, riding scooters, bikes, and playing at the park.

Clark found a crossfit gym to work out at so he didn't lose any ground while we were away from home.  Of course, our priorities were in line so we ate at the Pizza Factory, Bear Paw cafe, and even tried out a couple new restaurants.  We had heard good things about 25Main bakery and cafe.  It was super cute, although the food was just ok but the cupcakes made up for the so-so food.  I think next time I'll skip the meal and go straight for the cupcake counter, I recommend the chocolate chocolate (of course) and Clark had the Boston Cream, it was yummy too!

Thursday was a little cooler, well too cool for the pool that is.  So we decided to be adventurous and spend the day in Zion's National Park.  I can't believe I've lived in Utah my whole life, and have been going to Southern Utah for years and years and never went into Zion, at least that I can remember.  We had such a great time.  It was a beautiful day, and the scenery was breathtaking!

First we just drove through the canyon, though we didn't realize the actual canyon was only open to shuttles this time of year.  So we drove as far as we could, then back at the bottom by the visitors center, we hopped on a trail with our bikes and rode for a couple picturesque miles.

Afterwards, it was still early enough, so we decided to hop on one of the shuttles for the 30 minute ride up to the top of the canyon.  We got off the shuttle at the top and hiked for a mile or so along the riverside trail at the base of the narrows hike.  It was so pretty!  It's so fun to be able to take the kids and do fun things like that.  They loved it too!

By the time we finally got back to our car, it was about 7pm and we were all starving, having eaten our pj&j sandwiches, apples, and string cheese hours earlier.  So we stopped for some dinner right outside the park and paid a crazy amount for a couple tacos and quesadillas for the kids.  Aside from the overpriced dinner, the day was a success!  It will be fun to go back in a few years when the kids are older and we can do a little more difficult hiking.

Friday was cold and raining all day.  So after clark's morning workout, and my run in the rain, we loaded up the kids, grabbed some lunch and surprised the kids with an afternoon at "Antigravity", a trampoline and bounce house place.  It was a perfect way to spend the afternoon with the kids and let them get their wiggles out on a rainy day.  That night we picked up Cafe Rio takeout and met up with our friends, the Broadhead's.  Our kids love having friends to visit whenever we go to St. George and the Broadhead's are always up for an adventure with us!  Friday night we just had dinner and let the kids watch the Lorax on their projector.  We met up with them again Saturday afternoon for a bike ride along the riverside trail.

Saturday morning we went for a little drive and ended up finding a cute little breakfast place in Santa Clara called, "breakfast at tifini's'.  It was so yummy!  This will be a new tradition for us from now on, I'm certain.  It was a french creperie.  I had the creme brulee french toast and it was A-MAZING.  So yummy!  I already want to go back for more.  It was so rich, it was a definite caloric splurge.  Ok, lets be honest, the entire week was a caloric splurge... but it was vacation!
So all in all, we had a great, fun-filled, action-packed family vacation!  Our last time to soak up some sun before winter unfortunately sets in on us!  Our last fill of sun and fun for a few long months!
